I finally caved and did a 23andMe test. Just know that I will always blame my Irish roots when I’m being extra stubborn or having a drink too many and blaming my Neanderthal roots for anything stupid I do. 😅😆
Some things of interest that the rest was right about:
- I do have restless leg syndrome
- I do have arrhythmia
- I do have eczema
- I do metabolize certain meds slower (maybe this is why 1 Tylenol handles my headaches although Tylenol wasn't mentioned)
- I do have detached earlobes
- I do have blue eyes
- I do not have red hair
- I do have stretch marks
Things that it says I’m likely for and I agree it’s possible from what I know about my family (these things are why I eat healthy and exercise):
- High blood pressure
- Sleep apnea
- Coronary disease
- Type 2 diabetes
- High cholesterol
- Migraines (I might have 1 a year if that)
Things that it got wrong about me:
Says I don’t like cilantro— I fucking love cilantro.
Says I will eat chocolate or vanilla ice cream— Not even, I’ll turn down chocolate ice cream unless I’m being polite because I’m somebody’s company. I don’t care for chocolate at all 🤷🏼♀️
- Says I have thin, wavy hair— If this shit on my head is thin then I don’t want to know what thick hair is and my hair is clearly quite curly, not just wavy.
- Says I currently am predisposed to weigh around 150lbs— I weigh 125lbs; although this is likely because I try to eat well and exercise regularly.
- I do not have lots of freckles.
- My hair color is actually a dark blond, not light or dark brown.
I think this was a fun and interesting (really easy) to do test. It also maps your family tree with those who have also done the test (yes, I saw known family members pop up). I say this was worth the $99 I spent. I don’t think I would have spent too much more than that.
